Last stop before Nationals… TAMSCC always holds a practice right before Nationals for the Texas folks to get in unlimited runs on some pretty great concrete! This year was no different and this was our last stop before packing up for Lincoln.
The car worked great, though we were running on older tires just to get a few runs in. Donna Bartling will be driving our car in CP Ladies since her and Alan’s Mustang is down at the moment. She took the opportunity to get acquainted with the car and did pretty well! Quite a few of the Spokes RT/RT guys were out as well getting a last few runs in. Here’s another view on the event from Vivek – NSXFTW
I recorded my runs, but we didn’t really try with Todd or Donna. Fun little course, but had some big bumps in critical sections which made it a little interesting! The tires were pretty old, so straight line grip was a little lacking…
We’ll be on the road next Saturday and headed to Lincoln!
What an event! We made the trek up to Dallas Raceway on Sunday for Texas Region’s 1st event there. Quite a number of fast guys were going to be there and it was concrete, so how could we not?
The lot was pretty sizeable and basically spotless concrete.

One hot day but got in some good runs at the Houston Police Academy! In the rush up to Nationals, every event counts, even if it’s a short course.
The Police Academy doesn’t give you a whole lot of course options, but this was a pretty good flowing course. (more…)
Made a quick trip up to College Station today for some practice. Todd and I haven’t had a lot of seat time this summer, so getting out on the track and putting in some runs was sorely needed! I also had the Video4 setup for the first time with 2 cameras and also got the track map working so we were excited to try it out.
So it looks really cool except the camera cleared loosened up during the runs… and I accidently had “mirror” turned on for the inside camera, oops! Nonetheless it shows some great potential. We struggled with grip since we basically burned off the rear tires at the last Houston event. There was quite a bit of dirt out there as well which caused some front end grip issues.
I also had some fun in the new Mustang. This is just a cheap point and shoot mounted on the roof. Going from slicks to street tires was a bit of a challenge…
Got a few more events this summer so stay tuned in the run up to Nationals!
Finally! One step closer to getting the Mustang back on the ground. Since the axles were out and one end had a bearing race that was spinning in the housing end I decided it would be a good idea to replace the bearings before putting everything back together.
This is not complicated, but it is a fairly lengthy process! After shopping around a bit and a quote to do it (3 hours and $270!!!) I decided to tackle it myself.
Here’s the axle end. The Versailles axle has a built-in caliper bracket which floats outside the axle bearing. The press plates need to fit between the axle flange and the brake caliper plate. (more…)
My Dad’s been making some progress back home on his Daytona Coupe project. He sent me an e-mail the other day with the below photos attached that I had to share!
See attached. Everything clears, front lock is only limited when the tire contacts the upper control arm (at least at ride height – need to check full bump and full droop). Looks mean. Also a pic of the engine with some of the accessories mounted – had to go to the belt drive distributor to clear the ITBs, which also allowed me to remove the spacers and restore the injector path to the back of the intake valve instead of being aimed at the spacer wall. Didn’t want to go to coil on plug like the other guy running this intake on a short deck block did….
It’s not on the ground yet, but getting closer. (more…)
Just because it’s almost the 4th of July!
Been struggling for a while to find a better solution to mount the bullet cameras inside the Camaro for grabbing video out the windshield and of the driver. There are lots of different mounts on the market, but they either didn’t quite do what I wanted or were really expensive for what you got.
That means make it yourself. After a lengthy search of the options online, I figured out a rough direction to take. Target for the mount was under $30 each (wanted 2) and had to be sturdy. Here’s what I ultimately ended up with!
Two mounting options are shown here, one with the bullet camera and another with a small point and shoot. More details on how I made them follow. (more…)
I ran across a link this morning that while cool, makes me a little sad. Speedhunters made a visit to KW Suspension to look at their new iPhone connected shocks in an article titled “Future of Suspension”.
As someone who bridges the gap between hands on and the technology age it is exciting to see development like this, but from the standpoint of actually understanding what goes into car setup it is a little sad to see so much being taken over by computers. Before long there will probably be an app to give you the right settings…
Don’t get me wrong, advancement in technology and going faster I am all for, but I also have to appreciate and respect the guy who does his homework, gets his hands dirty, and learns the hard way!
Didn’t really take any pictures at this event, but had a lot of fun despite being a long and hot day! Todd and I were 1 and 2 in PAX and FTD. The course was pretty good for the Police Academy, though a little short.
