Trial Run…

I’m behind in posting this, but finally got some time to report on our first trial run of the Camaro.

What should have been a few short hours of work turned into an all day affair, but shortly before midnight we were ready to race!

The new orange numbers really pop in the daylight! You’ll notice the track width is off and the nose is too high… more on that in a little bit.

WP_20130317_007

Ouch… 4 runs in and we were done. Lower arms bent right at the caster arm. I had originally wanted to gusset these arms like Hobaugh did, but against my better judgement I let the stock-car guys talk me into it being “ok” as-is. Big mistake.

Back at the shop we tore it down and the arms were also bent upward. Unknown which happened first but version 2 will be much stronger.

Oh and the track width? Turns out I was an inch short on my upper and lower arms from what I had planned. Let’s just say that if you don’t measure it in the 3D model that it won’t show up in your suspension software! Parts have been ordered and hopefully the car will be back on the road soon.

Lesson learned!

#FEATURETHIS – ’67 Mustang on SPEEDHUNTERS!

Got a really awesome surprise today! I don’t often submit to websites to try and get my work (automotive or photography) featured, but I took a chance on Speedhunters for their Born in the USA feature.

And I got picked and was the feature photo!

Pretty stoked. There are some really nice rides in the feature. If you’d like to see some more of the Mustang, make sure to checkout my previous post Mustang Photo Shoot

One rack out and another in

I had thought it would be frustrating to start and end the day basically with the car in the same state, but it wasn’t because now we have steering!

All this hard work… a few nuts, bolts and a sawzall later… (more…)

Two Steps Forward and a Whole Bunch Back…

A bit of a frustrating weekend. It started off well since Todd and Eric had finished bending up the rest of the tin. All I had to do was apply the insulation and rivet the panels in.

WP_20130302_001

The panels were fit pretty good. This one is under the dash, but you still want to keep as much heat out of the cockpit as possible. (more…)

It’s the Details…

Time seems to be moving too fast and progress not nearly fast enough! Finished up another day of work on the Camaro and while progress is to be had, it’s slow moving.

WP_20130224_006

The nose is back on for hopefully the final time! This took far longer than anticipated and getting it straight was a bit of a chose. Meanwhile, other little bits started coming together. (more…)

Fire in the Hole!

And it runs again! Fast idle for a few seconds just to test out the new wiring. The new headers had a bit of oil on them and it got burned off, nothing to worry about… Another weekend or two and we’ll be ready to race. March is fast approaching and several big events!

Touchdown!

And it’s on the ground! Of course clearly the Camaro wasn’t quite ready to race this weekend like we’d planned, but huge leaps of progress nonetheless. (more…)

One Car to Do It All

A cool video I had to share.  At one time this was my goal with the ’67, but I’ve since come to enjoy the use of a dedicated track car in the Camaro.  Nonetheless this is one cool car and a sweet garage!

Dim Light at the End of the Tunnel…

I think it’s the beginning of the end of a long project. Or at least the downward slope!

WP_20130111_002

Had two full weekends of work with Todd up in College Station. We’ve got most of the front suspension bits worked out, the exhaust is checking out pretty good, and while nowhere near finished, the seat relocation and dash rebuild has started.

But I’ll back up a bit… (more…)

Looking Forward to 2013!

With the end of 2012, it’s time to look forward to what 2013 holds! This will be an exciting year. With major updates to the Camaro in progress, it’ll be an interesting racing season without a doubt!

Todd is making strong progress on the body…

WP_20121226_008

He’s just picked up the subframe from me with a little bit of fabrication to go… Target for completion is in early February so that we can dial it in before the Dixie and Sunbelt National Tours!

Black and White

Work on the Mustang will be continuing, though no major mods are planned. I’m going to continue to work on my photography skills and hopefully have some better work to show this year!

Another project we’re helping out with is Mike “Mikespeed” Peters’ Drift Camaro and some tweaks on his street car. This car will be getting a version of the front suspension on the OversteerGarage Camaro, though with some tweaks based on what I’ve learned so far.

And that’s just the start of it. All in all this is shaping up to be an exciting year. Looking forward to sharing it all with you!
