Today is the day. Sorry for the lack of posts, but we have been scrambling all week. CP runs 5th Heat today on the West Course and it will be one to watch!

We should start driving about 4pm, give or take a bit.
Another set of classes to watch will be ESP this morning, 2nd Heat. Fixing to be a good battle! Anyways, enjoy!
There are many things that you probably shouldn’t be doing the week before you leave for a National event. Let’s run through a few of them:
Dyno testing the car, welding on the car, making changes to the setup… Well I guess we broke 2 of those this last weekend, though we decided not to tweak the setup at all!
This is the offending distributor that gave us so much trouble a few weeks ago. It’ll go back to MSD for a rebuild, but for the meantime a backup distributor is in place and working great. That wasn’t the only fun from this past weekend, click through for more! (more…)
Nationals is quickly approaching! With just 2 weeks until we leave for Nationals we have tons to do and little time left. Last weekend was our final chance to get the car setup right before we packed up and headed out!
We spent all of Saturday doing punchlist items on the car and diagnosing a missing and starting problem. Eventually we traced it down to a bad distributor, but not before losing most of the day. Sunday we got off to a good start and were able to get up and running quickly. We got the brakes adjusted just right, like Todd figured out above… Click through for more info and video! (more…)
I had spotted a little info on this a while back on one of the automotive new sites I read, but I didn’t really pay a whole lot of attention. Recently though I was sent a little more info and after watching the trailer figured I’d go ahead and post! Here’s the trailer followed by a little PR blurb.
PR:
One of the greatest drag racing rivalries in sports history is the story of Don ‘The Snake’ Prudhomme and Tom ‘The Mongoose’ McEwen. Coming September 6th, 2013 the story of their rivalry hits theaters. The Snake & Mongoose Movie shares the inspiring tale of the two revolutionary men who’s battle on the track stood in stark contrast to the deep and profound excitement of the friendship created from this rivalry. The Snake & Mongoose Movie shares the story of the colorful characters surrounding the legendary races and the rivalry that defined the times. Executive producer Elliott Broidy hopes drag racing and car enthusiasts thoroughly enjoy the film’s story on the history of the two racers and their ground breaking accomplishments in the world of entertainment sports marketing and sponsorship.
With this movie and Rush coming out, should be a good September for car movies!
1st real event with the new setup this year happened today at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown. It was a bit of a challenging course with a really tight first section. We battled 2 issues today – a stumbling carburetor and not enough steering angle for the tight stuff. The carb is an easy fix, the steering angle not so much…
Todd put down a blistering 53.4 on his 3rd run, but had a bit of an issue with the video recording so this is his barely slower 53.6 4th run.
I had a bit of an issue with the heat and didn’t take my 4th run after slowing down on my 3rd run due to not eating enough food and drinking enough water! This is my best run, a 54.3.
Final results hadn’t been posted for X class yet, but I will update tomorrow with our PAX finishes. 1 more event, a practice, then it is onto Nationals!
UPDATE: Todd finished 2nd in PAX and I ended up in 6th! Not too bad for a car that is still a work in progress….
Big thanks to Clint Williams for taking some great shots out at the event! His page has lots from the event, but I stole the ones of us and posted here. Some fantastic work!
I just had to share this episode of Big Muscle on Drive.
When I initially saw the picture I could have sworn I was looking at a picture of my ’67 before it got painted! A little different, but the soundtrack this thing makes is almost exactly the same.
For your viewing pleasure, here’s an old dyno run on the ’67 so you can see what I mean.
More from the TAMSCC practice later this week. Enjoy!
If you’ve been keeping up this year, you know that we’ve had a number of setbacks in work on the Camaro. Well now, fingers crossed, most of those are behind us. Had an extremely successful test day out at Texas A&M’s Riverside Campus with the TAMSCC yesterday. More testing follows today, but wanted to share some video with you all since we are absolutely pumped about how the car is performing!
The car was pretty much hooked up! Some videos from testing follow. No editing of these, so sorry for the length and bit of erratic cuts.
A couple of shock tweaks and the car was really working. We were taking it easy in the crossover sections to keep the RPM down. Full-speed through the crossover had the car kissing the revlimiter at 8,000RPM! This was also our first time out with our new video overlay. I’m pretty happy with it, what do you think?
After getting the car where we wanted it, we assisted the TAMSCC guys with tweaking their course for Day 2 practice. The end result isn’t too bad.
More to follow after today!
Nationals is approaching faster than we need so it’s time to get serious! There’s a 2-day practice at A&M on July 6th and 7th so I made my way up to College Station to get in a day of work on the car to get it ready to test.
We had 4 goals for the day: add in some negative camber, final mount the nose, brace the passenger door, and ballast the car to meet minimum weight.
No nose on the car (which is ~90 lbs). Got a fair bit of ballast needed to get us up to the class minimum of 2750 lbs. Click through to see more! (more…)
Seems like we’ve been radio silent for a longtime. Between a house move, broken race car and work it’s been a bit of a slow slog getting the car back together, but it is slowly coming along! Most of this progress was made over a month ago, but I’m just now getting around to posting about it.
First up was assembling all of the control arm bits together. I won’t bore you with the step by step process, but this is the almost complete arm pre-heat treating. (more…)
It’s been a few weeks of radio silence since real-life has gotten in the way of racing! The past few weeks have been mostly consumed with a house move, though I was able to slip in some planning and re-work on the Camaro. Not done yet, but we’re getting closer…
Rewind a few weeks and we’re back to bent control arms. After lots of planning and 3D modeling, I had parts ordered and shipped up to Todd’s. (more…)
